Inpatient General Rehabilitation
We provide specialised, inpatient rehabilitation following a period of acute hospital care.

Your rehabilitation team will work with you to improve your ability to perform day-to day activities and adjust to changes following an illness, injury or medical event, with the aim of getting you ready for discharge back to community living.
Rehab involves your participation in daily therapy sessions and daily routines such as getting showered and dressed and sitting out of bed for meals.

Specialised inpatient rehabilitation units are located on levels three and four of the Kangkanthi building, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The Tarnma Rehabilitation Unit is on Level 3, Kangkanthi building. Tarnma is the Kaurna word for Banksia.
The Karra Rehabilitation Unit is on Level 4, Kankanthi building. Karra is the Kaurna word for Red Gum.

Rehabilitation services are provided by a multidisciplinary team made up of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.
General rehabilitation
Rehabilitation services help people regain function, become more independent, and adjust to a new way of doing things after an illness, injury, or surgery.

You need a referral from the medical team providing your hospital care to access this service.
The Tarnma Rehabilitation Unit offers services primarily for people with orthopaedic, musculoskeletal, burn, amputee and vascular conditions.
The Karra Rehabilitation Unit focuses on providing rehabilitation services for patients with stroke and other neurological conditions.

Visiting hours are 2:30 pm – 8:30 pm daily.

We accept inpatient treating team referrals to this service via EMR consult order or a referral form for non-EMR sites.
External referrals are not accepted.
This service may be suitable for patients who:
- are willing and able to participate in a daily rehab program
- have multi-disciplinary rehab requirements
- have clearly identified, achievable goals
- are not suitable for RITH or DRS services.
